Academic Review

A calm first step to understand your child’s academic support needs

The Academic Review is a one-to-one session with a UK university scholar.

It is designed to help us understand a student’s current academic context and determine whether structured, ongoing mentorship is appropriate.

Rather than starting with trial sessions or ad-hoc tutoring, the Academic Review provides clarity from the outset.

What the Academic Review Is

The Academic Review is a structured academic conversation focused on how the student learns and where support may be most helpful.

During the session, the scholar explores:

  • the student’s current academic level and curriculum stage

  • how the student approaches learning and problem-solving

  • strengths and areas that may need attention

  • academic priorities over the coming months

This is not an exam or formal assessment.

Its purpose is to build context and direction through direct engagement with the student.

Why We Begin This Way

Academic progress is rarely the result of individual sessions alone.

It comes from understanding, continuity, and a clear sense of direction.

Beginning with an Academic Review allows:

  • support to be planned around how the student actually learns

  • expectations to be aligned from the start

  • unnecessary trial-and-error tutoring to be avoided

This helps ensure that any ongoing mentorship is purposeful, structured, and appropriate.

What Happens After the Review

Following the Academic Review:

  • we share a clear recommendation on whether ongoing mentorship is suitable

  • if appropriate, we outline how regular support would be structured

  • families can decide calmly whether to proceed

There is no obligation to continue beyond the review.
